 GOLF IN GRAN CANARIA
|
Recently there has been a huge increase in popularity of golf on Gran Canaria, as well as the other islands. While most think that golf is a new pastime on Gran Canaria, the island is actually home to the oldest course in Spain. The first golf course on Gran Canaria was opened in 1891 and is still going strong. Today there are 6 courses in Gran Canaria, with 4 more being built at the moment and 8 more still in the planning stages. Three of the current courses are in the north and the other three are in the south, but to get between any two the longest drive is 25 minutes. One of the main reasons for the popularity of golf there is because Gran Canaria has the perfect climate for it. It is possible to play golf almost every day of the year. Aside from the weather another advantage that golf on Gran Canaria has is their low prices. If you wanted to play it would only cost you €50, £35, during the off season months of May to September. When you consider the high quality and modernity of the facilities it is easy to see why so many people come to play golf in Gran Canaria. |
